Slaying the Vampire Conqueror - Commercial Illustration for a Fantasy Book

Client: CooBoo / Albatros Media
My role: Fan art illustration

CooBoo — Fan Art Beyond the Page

My collaboration with CooBoo, a publishing imprint within Albatros Media, brought together illustration and literary storytelling. CooBoo publishes young adult and new adult books, including fantasy and romance—worlds that offer plenty of room for visual interpretation. Albatros Media

The first project focused on Slaying the Vampire Conqueror. What began as a fan art illustration later expanded into promotional merchandise, giving the artwork a life beyond its original format.

The Story Behind the Project

Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent is a fantasy romance set in the world of Crowns of Nyaxia. It follows Sylina, an assassin tasked with infiltrating the army of the vampire conqueror Atrius and killing him. As their connection grows, her mission becomes entangled with forbidden feelings and conflicting loyalties.

For CooBoo, I created a fan art illustration inspired by the novel—bringing my own visual interpretation to an existing fictional world as part of the publisher’s promotion of the book.

From Illustration to Promotional Merchandise

The illustration was later used across CooBoo’s promotional merchandise, including lip balm packaging, postcards and book overlays.

These applications gave the same artwork different roles: a postcard could stand on its own as a small art print, an overlay could accompany the book, and the lip balm packaging brought the illustration onto an everyday object. Together, the items shared a visual connection through the original fan art.

This expansion became an important part of the project. The illustration was no longer only a standalone image, but something that could accompany the book in several physical forms.

Adding Motion

Alongside the illustration, CooBoo also requested a simple animated version of the artwork. This added another dimension to the brief: presenting the fan art through movement as well as a still image.

The animation request and the later merchandise applications show the different directions the project opened up—from an illustration inspired by a novel to artwork with uses beyond the page.
